Middle Township has 8 Tornado Sirens located throughout the township. For a location of these sirens click on the link below.

When are they tested:
The Tornado sirens are tested weekly at 11:00 am on Fridays and sound for 1 min.

When they are set off:
When a Thunderstorm Warning with Tornado Watch is issued the sirens are set off for 1 min.
During a Tornado Warning the siren continue to go off until warning is over.

What to do when you hear the sirens:
When the sirens are activated, you should go inside and turn on a television or radio for more information. You may also wish to have a NOAA weather alert radio available.  If a Tornado Warning is issued you should do the following.

  • In a home or building, move to a pre-designated shelter, such as a basement.
If an underground shelter is not available, move to an interior room or hallway on the lowest floor and get under a sturdy piece of furniture.
    Stay away from windows.
Do not try to outrun a tornado in your car; instead leave it immediately.
If caught outside or in a vehicle, lie flat in a nearby ditch or depression.
Mobile homes, even if tied down, offer little protection from tornadoes and should be abandoned.
